Each two-capsule daily dose supplies 600 mg of vitamin C as L-ascorbic acid, in a form designed to get past the limits of ordinary vitamin C absorption. AlphaZomalโข Vitamin C solves a problem that most people never realise they have with vitamin C. Ordinary ascorbic acid is absorbed in the small intestine by a dedicated transport system, and that system saturates: at doses of a few hundred milligrams most of the vitamin is taken up, but as the dose rises the proportion absorbed falls steeply, and by a gram or more the greater part passes straight through, drawing water with it. Taking more, in other words, gives diminishing returns and an unsettled stomach. Liposomal vitamin C bypasses the transporter altogether; the phospholipid spheres are taken up by the gut wall as fat is, so absorption no longer depends on a saturable carrier, and a moderate dose achieves what a much larger ordinary dose cannot.
The AlphaZomal formula is a dry liposomal powder in a capsule rather than the more familiar liquid. Liquid liposomal vitamin C has a strong, unpleasant taste that has to be masked with sweeteners and flavourings, and it deteriorates quickly once opened. The powder form needs none of that: the capsule contains only vitamin C and phospholipids, it tastes of nothing, and it keeps for three years from manufacture.
