AlphaZomal™ Glutathione is liposomal glutathione for enhanced absorption and utilisation. Each capsule supplies 150 mg of reduced glutathione, the body’s own principal antioxidant, present in every cell and at its most concentrated in the liver. Glutathione taken by mouth in ordinary form is largely broken down in the gut before it can be absorbed; the liposomal form addresses that directly, which is why it has become the form of choice among practitioners.
The advantage of liposomal-form nutrients is that they are held inside a double phospholipid layer — the material of our own cell membranes — so they are absorbed more efficiently. AlphaZomal Glutathione contains:
- Glutathione (reduced, L-glutathione), 150 mg per capsule: A small protein (a tripeptide) made in the body from three amino acids — glutamate, cysteine and glycine — and found in every cell. It is the cell’s principal water-soluble antioxidant, it regenerates vitamins C and E after they have been used, and it is the molecule the liver attaches to many unwanted compounds so that they can be excreted. The body’s glutathione levels decline with age and are drawn down by poor diet, alcohol, smoking, pollution and stress.
- Phospholipids (from sunflower and palm oil), 225 mg per capsule: The liposome material itself, the same phosphatidylcholine-rich lipids that make up our own cell membranes. The high phospholipid content is what protects the glutathione through the stomach and gut.
No added sugar, no flavourings, no preservatives. Soya-free, dairy-free, gluten-free and vegan.

AlphaZomal™ Glutathione exists because of an absorption problem that dogged glutathione supplements for decades. Glutathione is a tripeptide, a very small protein, and the digestive tract treats it as it treats any protein: enzymes in the gut wall break it into its constituent amino acids before it reaches the bloodstream. Early studies of ordinary oral glutathione found little or no rise in blood levels, and for years the accepted advice was to take precursors such as N-acetyl cysteine instead and let the body make its own. Liposomal delivery changed that. Enclosing the glutathione in phospholipid spheres shields it from the gut enzymes and carries it intact across the intestinal wall, and studies of liposomal glutathione have shown measurable increases in glutathione stores in the blood.
The phospholipids are not simply packaging. They make up 60% of the capsule by weight, and at that proportion the liposomes are stable enough to survive the stomach. They also supply phosphatidylcholine, itself a normal constituent of every cell membrane.
