The microbes or friendly bacteria that live in our gastrointestinal tract are absolutely central to our health and vitality. In fact, many modern chronic diseases are now being traced back to imbalances in our gut flora.

The microbes in our gastrointestinal tract are not just passively sitting there and blocking bad bacteria. They also have a whole host of useful functions, with more and more discovered each year by new research. It appears that our microbiome quality and diversity is THE primary foundation for our entire health.

This is why it is essential for health to be eating fermented foods and to be taking supplements that can help us to have a healthy and diverse group of friendly bacteria. This is important as these little allies help us to break down certain types of undigested food (such as carbohydrates); they help us absorb vital vitamins, lipids and minerals such as Vitamin K, magnesium, calcium and iron; they can help synthesise certain vitamins such as folate and biotin; they are central to our metabolism and wight; they help regulate our immune systems by the production of antibodies and cytokines; and they can even help modulate our nervous system and memory.

MicroMax: Biodynamic Effective Microorganisms

Micromax® is a naturally fermented live gut reconditioning supplement that helps to optimise the bacterial population profile in the gastrointestinal tract.

There are up to a thousand or more different species of bacteria living in our intestinal tract that are vital for our survival and well-being. These “friendly bacteria”, which can total up to 2kg in weight, number in the thousands of trillions and which collectively contain up to 3.3 million genes (compared to just 23,000 of the human genome), have developed a close symbiotic relationship with us over the course of evolution, making our gut flora an integral part of our biological and metabolic systems.

It is well known that these friendly bacteria inhibit the growth of unhealthy bacteria and other pathogens that would normally thrive in the warm, moist and nutrient-rich environment of the intestines, but research is now showing that they have many other important functions such as: breaking down undigested food (including certain carbohydrates); helping with the absorption of vital minerals (such as magnesium, calcium and iron), lipids, vitamins (such as K) and other nutrients; synthesising particular vitamins such as biotin and folate; adjusting our metabolism and weight; regulating the functioning of the immune system and the production of antibodies and cytokines that are then effective outside the gut as well; and even modulating our nervous system, psychological wellbeing (including anxiety and depression) and even memory.

In fact, it would be no exaggeration to say that healthy gut bacterial are absolutely central to both physical and psychological health, and that without them, none of us would be here today.

Modern diets (which are usually low in fibre, nutrient-poor and/or toxin-rich), antibiotic use (both internally and topically), and the rise in C-section births have all unfortunately had a deleterious effect on our gut flora, significantly reducing the number of friendly bacterial species inside of us. Some even call this a mass extinction! In fact, research on hunter-gatherers around the world indicate that they have up to 50% more bacterial species and twice as many bacterial genes than we do. This means that in modern humans the vital biological processes mentioned above are not as efficient or effective, making our health more fragile.

Traditional ways to try to improve the bacterial populations in our gut have been to take probiotics — supplements that supply healthy bacteria — and/or prebiotics — supplements that supply food that healthy bacteria thrive on. However, when one considers that there are up to 1,000,000,000,000 (a trillion) microorganisms per gram of intestinal contents, with up to 2kg of gut flora in total, then adding a few billion extra per day, in the case of probiotics, is unlikely to make a significant impact, and neither are prebiotics which do not necessarily feed only healthy bacteria.

Fortunately there is now an effective solution. Professor Teruo Higa in Japan has developed a very specific fermentation process that produces a perfect balance of approximately 80 different types of specific aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. These include lactic acid bacteria, yeast and photosynthetic bacteria and other accompanying species. (Even though the product contains yeast, it can actually be used to recover from yeast infections because the lactobacillus feed off the candida, producing peroxide in the process which further kills pathogens.)

This specific microbe combination, which Professor Higa calls effective microorganisms, are supremely effective at promoting richer and healthier bacterial colonies, inhibiting pathogenic ones, and even persuading neutral bacteria to act in healthy ways! They are able to do all this by introducing health-promoting genetic information into our gut flora systems, taking advantage of the rapid twenty minute generational cycle of bacteria. In this way, our gut flora is fundamentally changed for the better at the genetic level.

Micromax® is a new high-quality biodynamic version of Professor Higa’s effective microorganisms that uses organic fermentation ingredients — principally sugar cane molasses and over 40 different wild Alpine herbs — to produce exceptionally high quality effective microorganisms — up to 80 different kinds of them. The herbs used supply antioxidants, amino acids, vitamins, minerals and other nutritional components, and as the sugar is used up in the fermentation process, Micromax is safe for diabetics. And although it is a fermented product, it can also be a part of an anti-candida treatment program and a digestive cleanse.

When taken orally with water, Micromax is extremely effective at balancing gastrointestinal flora and inhibiting gut pathogens. But it can also be used externally on the skin, and internally in an enema, as a vaginal douche or even as a sinus cleanse. After all, bacteria are not just important for gut health but are found all over our bodies where they play vital roles in keeping us healthy. In fact, Micromax can even be used on surfaces as a natural disinfectant to discourage the growth of harmful bacteria and other pathogens, without damaging healthy bacteria (which as we know causes problems ecologically).

The biodynamic manufacturing of Micromax is carried out to the very highest standards in Austria, and all batches are lab tested for safety, including for Shigatoxin-Geb 1 and 2 (EHEC). Finally, Micromax is vegan — no animal products are used in its manufacture.

So forget probiotics and prebiotics: if you really want optimal gut health, Micromax is the way to go!

Directions: Adults should start with a half tablespoon twice a day 20 minutes before meals (total daily dose 15mL), in water or juice (with no added sugar). If well tolerated, double to 1 tablespoon twice a day before meals (total daily dose 30mL). Alternatively, mix the total daily dosage in a litre of water and drink throughout the day. Never add to hot water. Children should take smaller amounts based on fraction of adult body weight. Product is not suitable for children under 3. Do not exceed recommended dose.

Potential Reactions: When starting Micromax one can sometimes experience rumbling in the gut and/or diarrhoea. This is a detox reaction and digestion should normalise in 1-3 days.

Refrigerate once opened and consume within 6 weeks.

Ingredients & Nutrients per 30 mL (2 tbsp)Amount
Made without any artificial ingredients, additives, preservatives or flavourings. Solvent free, gluten-free, dairy-free, alcohol-free and vegan. Biodynamically produced and GMO-free. The plastic bottle is pharmaceutical grade and BPA-free.
Starter ingredients: Pure spring water, organic cane molasses (used up), aerobic and anaerobic (effective) micro-organisms, a proprietary mixture of 40 different Alpine herbs*, rice bran, stone powder, maca, halite crystal salt
Production Notes: The molasses is used as a fuel source for the microbes during production and is not present in the final product fermentation process. This means that Micromax has a very low sugar content and is therefore safe for diabetics. The other nutritive ingredients — the herbs, maca, rice bran, stone powder and halite cyrstal salt — are provided to allow the microbes to reach their full vitality, and so are also used up or filtered out during production.
*Herbs used in production include: Red clover, white clover, German Weidlgras, shepherd's purse, red fescue, yellow oat, yarrow, lady's mantle, Glathafer, meadow fescue, caraway, plantain, broad plantain, dandelion, nettle, thistle, vervain, wood cranesbill, common chickweed, fenugreek & many more…
